Everyone has the same four worries before their first lesson. Here are straight answers.
You learn in small, broken waves close to the beach, in water about waist-deep. Your feet can touch the sand. Your instructor is in the water with you.
In a beginner lesson, everyone is new. And if you'd rather nobody watched, book a semi-private lesson: just you, one friend and an instructor.
If you can walk on the beach and lie on a board, you can do this. You will be tired afterwards. Everyone is.
You will fall. Everyone falls, many times. Your instructor will laugh with you, never at you, and help you back on.

Packs can be shared between two people.
We meet at our base in the centre of Ericeira. You get a wetsuit and a soft board, and we walk down to the beach together.
Before anyone goes in, your instructor shows you how to lie on the board, how to stand up, and how to fall safely.
You practise in small broken waves near the shore. Your feet can touch the bottom. Your instructor stays close.
Many people stand up in their first lesson. If you don't, that's normal too. Nobody is counting.
